Oceans 8, B
Rated PG-13, 110 minutes
"Oceans 8" is the entertaining, fun new spinoff from the "Oceans Eleven" series originally directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt. The female-driven "Oceans 8" is directed and written by Gary Ross ("Seabiscuit") and boasts its own all-star cast of Oscar-winning actresses, headlined by Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, the sister of Clooney's now-deceased character (supposedly) Danny Ocean, and also starring Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson and singer Rihanna.
"Oceans 8" is nothing really new, with a similar jewels/heist narrative as the other "Oceans" films and it has a nice twist at the end, even if it is very predictable. I could watch Bullock in anything, and she's as charming as ever here leading the way to steal the jewels right off Hathaway's neck at the Met Gala in New York City. Watch for a nice, supporting part from talk-show host James Corden in the last act. Go to "Oceans 8" not expecting anything serious, but a lot of fun, and you'll walk away with a smile.
